An exciting small-group adventure with geologist Jeri Jones, who leads this historic-based tour to Delta, PA. Here the world-famous Peach Bottom Slate was quarried from 1840s into the 1940s. In 1840, Peach Bottom Slate was voted the best building slate in the world at the London Expo, and was used in many government buildings and famous structures including the Biltmore Estate in Asheville, NC.
“For this trip, a small coach bus will transport participants back into time to visit the Old Line Museum, Rehoboth Welsh Church (one of only three remaining such congregations in North America), Slateville Presbyterian Church cemetery, Coulsontown (a restored Welsh village) and the Jones Quarry, one of the remaining easily accessible quarries in the area,” Jones said.
